PLANS FOR NEW PARK AT OLD SCHOOL SQUARE GET INPUT FROM RESIDENTS
During a 4-hour workshop for 40 Delray Beach residents, three groups brainstormed to come up with ideas for the cultural arts center at Atlantic & Swinton, a gateway to downtown Delray Beach.
The design firm selected last year by the city heard ideas such as the park remaining natural-looking, and instead of using playground equipment, using small boulders for “jumping off” and flat rocks to provide seating. It was suggested that the park be used as an educational site. A statue of an Eagle Scout was another idea, and a donor said he had an anonymous donor who would pay for a 6-ft bronze state in honor of his years of work with the Scouts. A path leading to the statue could bear the names of other Eagle Scouts, and there would be an Eagle Trail, a path made of bricks. Parents of Eagle Scouts could buy a brick with the name of their Scout. Open space for festivals, Frisbee throwing and ball play were suggested. Amphetheatre at Old School Square is pictured.
